Zusammenfassung

Duke and Toby know a surprise is coming, but they have no idea what to expect. When Andrea and Alan return home with Maverick, a little yellow Lab puppy, Toby is thrilled to have someone new to play with. Duke is excited too, but he quickly realizes that Maverick is frightened, confused, and missing the family he has always known. Everything is new to Maverick. The house smells different. The nighttime sounds are unfamiliar. Even the farm, with its gardens, chickens, ducks, geese, and goats, feels strange at first. Duke understands that Maverick cannot be rushed. He stays close when the puppy wakes in the night, answers his questions honestly, and gives him room when he needs it. Toby takes a different approach. He talks, jokes, and does everything he can to make Maverick smile. As the days pass, Duke and Toby begin showing Maverick around the homestead. They introduce him to the garden, the animals, and the places that mean the most to their family. One of those places is Toshi's tree, planted in memory of a dog they still love and remember. There, Maverick begins to understand that joining a new family does not mean he has to forget his mom, his sisters, or the life he had before. Duke and Toby Get a Little Brother is a warm, honest story about bringing home a new puppy and giving him the patience he needs to feel safe. It follows three dogs as they learn how to become brothers, how to make room for someone new, and how a place that once felt unfamiliar can slowly begin to feel like home. Part of the Brothers Forever series, this illustrated story is written for children who love dogs, farms, family stories, and books about kindness, change, belonging, and the bond between siblings.

Alain Grandemange is an author, editor, and photographer whose work is rooted in quiet moments, meaningful connections, and the beauty of everyday life. Drawing inspiration from rural living, nature, and the rhythms of home, his stories invite readers to slow down, notice more, and find meaning in simple truths. His children's books are known for their emotional depth, gentle wisdom, and thoughtful storytelling. Rather than offering easy answers, Alain's stories explore empathy, resilience, curiosity, and the importance of presence-encouraging young readers to reflect, feel, and grow alongside the characters. Each book carries a message children need to hear, wrapped in warmth, honesty, and care.As a photographer and visual storyteller, Alain brings a keen eye for detail and atmosphere to his work, often blending words and imagery to create immersive, comforting worlds. Whether writing for children or creating visual art, his goal remains the same: to create work that feels sincere, lasting, and deeply human.Alain lives in rural Virginia, where the landscape, animals, and daily moments of country life continue to shape and inspire his creative work.
