A woman witnesses from her bedroom window a violent assault on her elderly neighbour, and becomes embroiled in something much larger involving a criminal gang. They want her eliminated.
DCI Allison has his work cut out as he tries to close his file on Kelland and Paulson, in the sex trafficking case, together with a number of other crimes linked to the OCG. Not only that but police corruption has to be rooted out and this time it leads right to the top of command. Allison needs to tread carefully and choose his most loyal men to help him. All this comes at a time when his daughters return home and his wife, Mary demands he takes time off.
More worryingly, his police psychic advisor, Holly, is intermittently possessed by the spirit of an evil killer who masqueraded in life as a fervent Christian. The changes in her personality and habits are frightening. An exorcist from the Catholic church has to be brought in to help as Allison needs Holly's talents to assist him in uncovering the truth about the corruption and how far it has spread.
It is a dangerous and tricky business and deaths follow.
